CatholicCare Wollongong in partnership with Centacare Brisbane is an approved provider of Out of School Hours Care (OOSH) in the Illawarra and Macarthur areas currently operating in 7 schools. We provide varied before and after school care for children aged 5 to 12 years and accept enrolments of children attending both Catholic and NSW government schools.
Our services are located within school grounds and provide children with a safe and welcoming environment. The spaces cater to a wide range of activities for children of differing ages, interests and needs.
Our program is based on Australia’s first National Quality Framework, designed specifically for OOSH (for full version www.acecqa.gov.au) which aims to extend and enrich children’s wellbeing and development in school age settings.
Our program encourages and enables children to grow and develop in a safe, caring and supportive environment. As well as our structured activities, there is plenty of time to have fun and play with friends. Children have access to sporting equipment, arts and crafts, drama, science, cooking, toys, games, dress ups and more.
Health and Nutrition
We encourage positive learning experiences during snack times where good food habits are developed in a happy, social environment. Snacks provided by the service are healthy, balanced and varied. We also provide opportunities for children to experience food from different cultures. Menus are provided at each service except when families need to provide healthy, balanced food at vacation care services. The services have a strict no nut policy and no nut products will be served or eaten at the services. We can further accommodate a number of dietary requirements ie. gluten free, dairy free etc, so please speak to us about your child’s specific needs.
Our services are staffed by a dedicated team of education professionals who are university trained early childhood teachers or TAFE trained Diploma educators who support and respect the uniqueness and individuality of children and their families. Our goal is to ensure that educators support and facilitate children’s social skills and self-confidence.
Our educators collaborate with children to provide play and leisure opportunities that are meaningful to them and that support their wellbeing, learning and personal development. Children in school age care settings are challenged to be curious about what is of interest to them while at the same time developing self-identity and social competencies (taken from MY TIME, OUR PLACE Framework for School Age Care in Australia).
The day to day operations of each OOSH service is managed by a Service Coordinator and supported by an Area Manager.
Child Care Subsidy and Transition to Work
The Australian Government provides families with two types of financial assistance to help cover the costs of approved child care. These are Child Care Subsidy (CCS) and Transition to Work. The CCS is income tested. These subsidies must be applied for through Centrelink and will be automatically linked to the service when you provide your unique customer reference number and other enrolment details.
Child Care Subsidy (CCS)
CCS can help cover the cost of care for eligible families.
Transition to Work
Transition to Work will provide support to families who are in the process of re-entering the workforce by engaging in work, study or training activities. Hours of assistance will be determined by the Child Care Subsidy activity test.
