During the month of April over three weekends, the “Your Direction” CatholicCare Disability service took over 50 clients to the famous white-sand beaches and clear turquoise waters of Jervis Bay.

Clients had the extraordinary opportunity to go on a Dolphin cruise to witness some of the wild resident Bottlenose Dolphins who live inside Jervis Bay all year round.

Clients got to explore breathtaking rock and land formations, ancient sea caves and saw a seal from one of the local seal colonies playing with a puffer fish.

Clients and staff got to experience the wild ride across to Point Perpendicular where they learnt about The Point Lighthouse that was established in 1899 to replace the inaccurately placed Cape St George Lighthouse. The original 1860 lighthouse had been built in the wrong position due to inadequate supervision by the authorities of the day.

There were close encounters experienced with the majestic coastline gazing up at sheer cliffs that tower 100 metres vertically out of Jervis Bay, and clients spotted the map of Australia outlined in the rock and witnessed a titanic battle between fishermen and a Marlin. The cheering would have been heard from the boat, much to the disgust of the fishermen when the Marlin got away.

Hyams Beach famous for having the whitest sand in the world was visited including the myriad of bays and beaches around the Jervis Bay area.

Most clients were excited about exploring the Captains quarters and all the Kangaroos at HMAS Creswell which is a shore establishment of the Royal Australian Navy, apart of the Australian Defence Force.

After the wild encounter cruise, everyone went out for a delicious lunch where most of the conversations turned to the beautiful creatures seen that day and the breathtaking landscapes.

The day was a magical experience, even one client saying it was the best day he has ever had!
