Connecting our Communities

Be Connected is a joint initiative from the Good Things Network and the Australian Government. It's goal is to encourage and assist seniors with technology. CatholicCare was successful in receiving a grant to roll this wonderful program out to our communities.

The program seeks both mentors and participants. There are numerous self-paced learning modules with topics ranging from how to turn a computer on to how to do a zoom session. Participants are able to choose what interests them.

After having to postpone our first event last week in the Macarthur area due to the weather conditions, we decided to hold the 2 sessions on the same day at the Catholic Club Campbelltown. We had 10 people attend, from 5 different parishes, and had the assistance of 5 volunteer mentors.

It was a great day with lots of laughter, new friendships and connections formed. One lady said at the end, she found it so useful and is not scared of her computer now.

This is the first of 3 to be held across the diocese with the next to be held in Nowra at the Ex-Servos Club in April and then Wollongong Golf Club in May.

Spaces are limited, so please get your friends together and join in.
